In the magnificent landscape of Finist?re in Brittany, you will find the splendid original 18th century Ch?teau du Guilguiffin, surrounded by an expansive, natural park.
The history of this land goes farther back than the 18th century, however. The first manor was constructed on this site in 1010.
Soon, the Duke of Brittany raised his knight, Guilguiffin, to the title of Baron, putting him in charge of this place to protect it from further invasion. In 1250 the fortress on the site served as a refuge for the surrounding population and their livestock, as they were victims of frequent invasions.
Much later, in the 18th century, Louis XV had the fortress demolished and used its stones to construct the present castle for a hunting lodge.
The King's choice of Nicolas Porchic as his architect resulted in an oriental influence seen in the pillars, as Porchic was inspired by themes of India and Angkor-Wat.
The property offers eleven kilometers of lanes for strolling among peaceful gardens and woodlands. You will find the parc at Guilguiffin awe inspiring, from its geometric patterns and symmetry to the 520 rhododendrons ablaze with color in May and over 350,000 daffodils of twenty-seven varieties blooming in the gardens.
This listed residence has been in the same family for all the generations since its construction and boasts the character and authenticity of a well-loved home.
